Cleanse or irrigate area with sterile
saline or wound cleanser.
If necrotic tissue or black eschar is present, consider sharp or
autolytic debridement (see
Autolytic Debridement instructions using Biafine ®WDE below)
Apply a generous amount (¼ to ½ inch thick) of Biafine ®WDE
in and around the wound surface, being careful to fill the dead
space (See Dead Space instructions using
Biafine ®WDE below)
Cover with protective dressing
Renew dressings every 24 hours, or as necessary, depending on
exudate and slough |
| 1st or 2nd Degree Burns |
Cleanse area with sterile saline or wound cleanser
If necrotic tissue or black eschar is present, consider sharp or
autolytic debridement (see
Autolytic Debridement instructions using Biafine ®WDE below)
Completely cover the wound and the surrounding areas with a
generous amount (¼ to ½ inch thick) of Biafine ®WDE
Cover with protective dressing and cool compresses if necessary
Reapply every 24 hours, or as necessary |
| Dry Skin Conditions |

to ½ inch thick) of Biafine ®WDE
Repeat every 24 hours, or as necessary |
Apply a generous amount (¼ to ½ inch thick) of Biafine ®WDE on
and around the necrotic area. Area may be cross hatched using sharp
instrument to accelerate debridement
Cover with a semi-permeable membrane or gauze, depending on the
amount of exudate (i.e.., semi-permeable membrane for low exudate and
gauze for moderate to heavy exudate)
Repeat applications and dressing changes daily, or as necessary,
depending on the amount of exudate until autolytic is achieved
Fluff a 4x4 gauze
If wound is heavily exudating, generously impregnate fluffed dry
gauze with Biafine ®WDE; pack dead space; top with a dry 4x4 gauze
and a protective dressing If wound is lightly exudating, first moisten gauze with saline and
then generously impregnate with Biafine ®WDE; pack dead space; top
with lightly moistened 4x4 gauze and a protective dressing
